Hobbs 3rd in Greco State!!!

Michael Hobbs was one of five Dowers Grove South wrestlers to participate in the 2012 Greco State Tournament at Lincoln Way Central High School in New Lenox, IL.  Greco-Roman wrestling is a different style of wrestling where wrestlers must perform holds without grabbing the other wrestlers legs or using their legs in the process.  It is said to be the toughest of the three styles and the phrase "Men Wrestle Greco" is echoed throughout the Spring.

SO Heavyweight Michael Hobbs continued a stellar Spring campaign with a 3rd place finish at the Greco State Tournament.  This puts Hobbs in the first position to defend that final spot on the IL National Team at the 2nd Chance Tournament at Sycamore High School in Two weeks.  Michael continues to improve and I think it's safe to say that DGS is looking forward to some big things from Michael over the next two years.

Junior RJ Hickok was one match away from placing in the tournament.  One of his wins came against highly acclaimed Notay Jackson of the Harvey Twisters.  RJ, whose wrestling style is primarily based on leg attacks, adjusted his style for Greco and certainly represented himself and the DGS program very well.

Junior "Junior" Nimakoh continues to be the sponge of the Spring in soaking up every opportunity to improve himself and learn the sport.  He also has the distinction of probably having the toughest draws at the Freestyle and Greco State Tournament. On Saturday, Junior wrestled a State Champion and a State Runner-Up.  Junior started his wrestling career in October.  There is no doubt that the DGS Wrestling Program is better with Junior Nimakoh.

Sophomores Dan Holakovsky and Shane Varghese also took advantage of another opportunity to better themselves on Saturday by competing against some elite competition.  Both are among the team leaders in off-season points and will no doubt be competing for varsity spots next year in the DGS Line-up.

Suburban Sprawl practices have officially concluded and we completed what was by far our most successful Spring season in terms of numbers of kids wrestling in the off season.  The fruits of their labor will no doubt be visible in the years to come.

Thanks for all the wrestler's hard work and parent's support with our Spring campaign, see you in a few weeks for the Summer program.

Thanks,
Coach Lovelace
