2018 DGS Wrestling/D99 Hoops Holiday Feast Fundraiser

Come out and join the Downers Grove South Wrestling program and the D99 Hoops Special Olympics Basketball program as they host a Holiday Feast Fundraiser on Sunday, December 2nd in the DGS Cafeteria from 11:30 PM-1:30 PM. Proceeds from the Holiday Feast Fundraiser will go directly to the DGS Wrestling and D99 Hoops Program for the 2018-2019 season. Tickets for the fundraiser are available for purchase below and prices are $5 for children (12 and under) and $10 for Adults (13 and over). The pork, which is donated by the IL Pork Association (IL Pork Association) will be smoked for 48 hours by "smoke master" and D99 Hoops Team 1 Head Basketball Coach Kevin Ahrens. We will also be expanding the menu this year and adding fried chicken to the menu.  Additional sides of pork beans, beans, cole slaw, potato salad, chips, mac and cheese, hot dogs (for kids), chips, desserts, and beverages will all be available for the low, low price of $10 for adults and $5 for children (12 and under).  We will make every attempt to stream the NFL games that Sunday, which would include the Chicago Bears game vs. the New York Giants at 12:00 PM.  Otherwise, we will be showing highlights from the current and previous seasons of the DGS Wrestling and D99 Hoops programs on the big screen in the cafeteria. This will also be a kick-off to the holiday season so please wear your ugly Christmas sweater to the event.

The DGS Wrestling program consists of approximately 85 student-athletes competing at the Freshmen, JVII/Sophomore, JV, and Varsity level. The DGS Wrestling program has won the West Suburban Conference Gold title in seven of the last eight seasons and has had an All-State wrestler in twelve of the last thirteen seasons. Proceeds from the Holiday Feast Fundraiser will go to providing food (healthy options) bins for the athletes for each of our meets, Varsity trip to Mater Dei Classic in IN, off-season trips/training opportunities including Freestyle/Greco State and the WI Dells Team Duals Camp, and additional awards throughout the season and for our end of the year awards night. The DGS Wrestling program is coached by Sean Lovelace, Jordan Delay, Sean Raddatz, Greg Maloney, Jerry Gates, Tim Noverini, Dan Vida, and Dom Oliveri.

The D99 Hoops program consists of four teams, which compete in the Special Olympics Illinois organization (IL Special Olympics). The 50 plus members (20 student coaches) of the D99 program have a variety of special needs ranging from learning disabilities, physical disabilities,  Autism, intellectual disabilities and other areas of need.  Each year the D99 Hoops program participates in a full schedule of home and away games which lead up to the IL Special Olympics State Basketball Tournament in which the D99 Hoops Team has been represented in each of the last six seasons, including State Championships in 2014, 2017, 2018 and a runner-up finish in 2015.  Proceeds from the Holiday Feast Fundraiser will go towards purchasing new uniforms/warm-ups, new basketballs, and their travel costs associated with the IL Special Olympics State Basketball Tournament which takes place in Normal, IL on the campus of Illinois State University. The D99 Hoops programs are coached by: Kevin Ahrens, Kim Hartsfield, Brett Wolf, Jack Cannon, Michele Geraghty, Patrick Hayes, Arthur Drenth, and Mike DellaMaria.

2018 DGS Wrestling Tailgate- Friday, September 21st

2018 DGS WRESTLING TAILGATE

We will once again be kicking off the year with our annual 2018 DGS Wrestling Tailgate!  The tailgate will be held on Friday, September 21st starting at 5:30 PM before the Mustangs take on the Addison Trail Trail Blazers for their Homecoming game.  All wrestlers, family, DGS Wrestling alumni, and of course new Mustang recruits are welcome.  We will have music, free food (as long as it lasts), bags, and SpikeBall.  This has become one of our favorite annual events because it's not only a great way for the program to get back together but also a great way of bringing in some new blood to the program.  We are looking to host our most well-attended event yet so please plan on coming by next Friday at 5:30 PM!

2018 PRE-SEASON UPDATE

The 2018-2019 Mustangs who are not in a fall sport are already in the swing of things as we have started our pre-season wrestling and strength & conditioning.  We are holding our pre-season wrestling at the new state of the art UFC-Downers Grove gym on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00-5:30 PM.  The kids have enjoyed training at the gym and we hope to continue this partnership with UFC-DG for years to come.  Our strength & conditioning efforts have never been better as this year we have officially brought on Coach Dan Vida from MFC Sports Performance in Darien as our lead strength & conditioning coach for the fall, in-season, and spring programs. In addition to a strong strength & conditioning background, Coach Dan also wrestled at Neuqua Valley High School and will bring that knowledge to the table as well.

2018 OFF-SEASON POINTS LEADERS

Finally, two weeks ago the top three off-season point leaders from each of the classes went out to celebrate their efforts at Mago Cantina & Grill in Bolingbrook.  It was a great meal and celebration of a lot of hard work that was put in this past off-season.  We are extremely excited about this group we have this year!

SENIORS:  Jeff Nugent, Mike Garza, Dylan Knoch
JUNIORS:  Brendan Richardson, Cole Gantner, Nick Callaghan
SOPHOMORES: Robert Major, Reet Bhasin, Joe Davison

Fargo Fundraisers- 1) Mojo's 20% Proceeds 2) Fargo Lottery Tickets

We wanted to congratulate Senior Sergio Villalobos and Junior Jeff Nugent on qualifying for the 2018 US Marine Corps USAW Junior National Championships in Fargo, ND, which will take place from July 12th through the 20th at the Fargo Dome.  Jeff qualified for the Greco National Championships in the junior division at 160 lbs, while Sergio will compete at 195 lbs in Freestyle in the junior division.  Villalobos has earned three previous All-American honors at this tournament, including a runner-up finish at Cadet 195 in 2016, while Jeff is wrestling in Fargo for the first time.  Both Jeff and Sergio will participate in the Fargo Training Camp at the University of Illinois and will also travel with the Freestyle and Greco juggernaut that is Team IL/USAW to Fargo in July.

Expenses for the training camp and tournament can add up to nearly $1000 each so we are helping Sergio and Jeff out as much as we can.  Below you will find two options on how you can help them cover some of their expenses for one of the best wrestling tournaments in the world.

1) Mojo's Proceeds Fundraiser- Wednesday, June 20th and Thursday June 21st
On Wednesday, June 20th and Thursday, June 21st, when you present the enclosed filer (paper or phone), Mojo's will donate 20% of your bill to the expenses for Sergio and Jeff.  Mojo's is located at 2758 Maple Ave in Downers Grove and is owned and operated by a great friend to the DGS Wrestling program Jon Scoggin.  Please come out and support not only Sergio and Jeff, but also a great local business in Mojo's.  Mojo's East Coast Eats- Downers Grove Website

2) USAW IL Lottery Ticket Fundraiser
Each year Team IL/USAW has team members sell IL Lottery Tickets for $20 each to help fund their expenses.  Tickets are $20 each and you are given numbers for the IL Pick 4 Evening Draw for the month of August.  Your numbers are good for the entire month and you must check the numbers on your own.  Here is how you can purchase lottery tickets to help fund Jeff and Sergio for the IL/USAW National Team:
  1. Complete this PayPal purchase for $20 (or more for multiple tickets)
2.  Once the tickets are delivered, you will receive an email with your numbers for the August IL Pick 4 evening draw.

3.  The DGS Wrestling program will have the hard copies of your lottery ticket and will keep those for you if you win.
