2012 Olympian Jake Herbert Instructs the Mustangs

The 2013 DGS Wrestling Summer camp had a change in schedule on Thursday, June 27th.  Twenty-four Mustang Wrestlers traveled to Glenbard West (also a member of the Suburban Sprawl WC) to watch 2012 Olympian and 2X NCAA Champion from Northwestern University Jake Herbert give a two hour clinic.  It was a great chance for the Mustangs to not only see top level technique (coincidentally similar technique to what we use in the room), but also a chance to pick the brain of one of the best wrestlers that the United States has produced in the last 25 years.  Jake is not only a great wrestler, but a great ambassador for the sport.  He has appeared on wrestling telecasts, Big Ten Network interviews, and of course was notably a guest on Coach Lovelace's favorite radio show, "The Howard Stern Show" when he yelled out "Bababooey" during the opening ceremony of the London games.  Herbert did not place at the games and was on the wrong end of two very controversial calls which prevented him from earning a medal.  Herbert is still training, but is also spending a lot of his time lobbying for wrestling's re-inclusion into the Olympics.  Overall, it was a great day for the Mustangs to improve their technical and mental skills in the sport of wrestling.
