Future Mustangs Shine at IESA State Finals

Six future DGS Wrestlers participated in the 2012 IESA State Wrestling Tournament this past Friday and Saturday at the Convocation Center at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL. Four of those wrestlers were from Darien Eisenhower.  Eisenhower placed 4th place as a team, following their 2nd place finish in 2011.  Coach Esposito has built one of the top IESA programs in the state and continues to finish strong each and every year.

Romero Lamar led the Generals with a State Championship at 145 lbs.  Lamar finished as a runner-up in the 7th grade, but was not to be denied in his 8th grade year.  He dominated in route to pinning his way to the finals, and won the title with a 3-1 decision over his Gibson City opponent.

Amhir Hooks became the first three-time place winner for Eisenhower and finished in 3rd place at 80 lbs.  Hooks lost a heart breaker 4-2 OT decision in the semi-finals, but came back strong to finish in 3rd place.  Hooks finishes his career with place finishes of 5th, 2nd, and 3rd, very impressive.

Not since the likes of Mike Monaghan have the Generals sent an upper weight with an impressive IESA resume as Patrick Wilson.  Wilson finished his 8th grade year with a 3rd place finish at the State Tournament.  He lost a tough 3-0 decision to the eventual champ in the semi-finals, but also came back strong for a 3rd place finish.  Wilson was also a state qualifier as a 7th grader.

Ryan Gurski also qualified for the Generals at 145 lbs and won a couple of matches before being eliminated.

Woodridge Jefferson also had two future DGS Wrestlers qualify for the 2012 IESA State Tournament.  First year Head Coach Luis Vargas led two of his 7th grade Wolverines to the state tournament.  7th grader Joe Tonoff, brother of current DGS freshman Perry Tonoff, qualified at 105 lbs.  While 7th grader Zach Muller qualified at 185 lbs for Coach Vargas.  Coach Vargas has led Jefferson to new heights this year qualifying 14 wrestlers to the sectional tournament, and he will be returning two state qualifiers to his team next year.  Jefferson certainly is on the upswing and will be a force to reckon with in the years to come.
