DGS Wrestling Wins Team Title at World Wrestling Camp Team Camp

Nineteen current and future DGS Mustangs traveled to the WI Dells from June 23rd through June 26th this past week for the 9th Annual World Wrestling Camp Team Camp.  This is a unique camp in not only were the wrestlers exposed to world class technique, but were also housed at the Wilderness Resort and Waterpark in one of the more unique settings for a team camp.

Nine other teams from four states attended the team camp, including former IA State Champs Bettendorf and Merril, WI and Baraboo, WI, both of whom recently made it to the semi-finals of the Team State Duals of WI.  The Mustangs went 6-1 in duals in route to the title with their lone defeat coming in the form of a 34-34 tie-breaker to another IL team, Mahomet-Seymour (AA).  The team atmosphere was great as the Mustangs bonded and "barked" together all week through the good and the bad.

In addition to the team duals, the Mustangs participated in the WREST program, which is all about the mental approach and preparation to wrestling.  There will also technique sessions that included 4X All-American Mike Mena, 2X World Silver Medalist Dennis Hall, and World Champion and current Iowa Hawkeye Coach Terry Brands.  The World Wrestling Camp director is Jon McGovern, who was a 2X NCAA DIII Champion and the Head Wrestling Coach at the University of DuBuque.

By the end of the week, the kids had plenty of wrestling, plenty of mental training, team bonding, and plenty of waterpark time for the week.  This was the second of a four week summer camp program which culminates at the US Army Midwest Nationals in Bloomington, IL on July 12th.  The Mustangs will also be hosting the DGS Wrestling Summer BBQ at McCollum Park in Downers Grove on Tuesday, July 15th from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM.  The BBQ is open to all wrestlers, alumni, and family.  Contact Coach Lovelace for more info.
