DGS Wrestling Program Has BUSY Weekend!!!!

Downers Grove South High School was the center of the IL Freestyle Wrestling this past weekend as the Mustangs and Suburban Sprawl hosted two Freestyle events in the field house.  Saturday, DGS hosted a Freestyle Developmental where 250 wrestlers came and wrestled in four-man round-robin brackets honing their freestyle skills in preparation for Freestyle State next weekend.  The tournament was a success and many people complimented the program on it's efficiency in running the tournament.  There were also over a dozen current and future Mustang Wrestlers in action on the Saturday.  The Mustangs off-season dedication has continued to grow over the past several years and this will be instrumental as the program continues to make strides.

Sunday, DGS hosted the 2013 IL Freestyle Club Cup.  The Club Cup is a unique event in which clubs wrestle in a dual format under FILA/USA Wrestling rules.  This year, we expanded to twelve teams, one of which was Suburban Sprawl.  Suburban Sprawl also fielded a second team that wrestled teams that were sitting out in their bye round.  Wrestlers from Downers Grove South, Downers Grove North, West Aurora, and Barrington filled out the two rosters and wrestled hard all day.  Club rosters were littered with state and Fargo placers and Suburban Sprawl and DGS were represented well.

Mustangs on Suburban Sprawl Club Cup Rosters:
Amhir Hooks- 106
Cormac Burke- 126
Joe Nugent- 138
Mark Chapman- 145
Shane Varghese- 152
Perry Tonnoff- 152/160
Junior Nimakoh- 160/170
Patrick Wilson- 195
Sam Patula- 220

Beebe Trained:
Jacob Chisholm- 120

Suburban Sprawl defeated ISI in their initial pool which placed them in the Silver Pool for the finals.  Suburban Sprawl dropped both duals in the Silver Pool, but it was a great performance on the day for a homegrown club.

DGS Wrestlers and Suburban Sprawl will take their show on the road this next weekend as they will be participating the 2013 IL Freestyle State Tournament in Champaign, IL.  Good luck wrestlers!!!!

Also, thanks to all those friends and families who helped run both tournaments.  It was a LONG weekend, but the money raised will help Mustang Wrestlers for years to come.
