Soon to be Junior HWT Michael Hobbs continues his dream "off-season" as he earned a 7th place finish at the Cadet National Greco Championships held in Fargo, ND on July 15-16. Hobbs opened the tournament with two big wins before losing two close bouts to eventual All-Americans. Hobbs finished 4th in his pool which put him in the 7th place match automatically qualified him for All-American status. Hobbs wrestled a tough opponent from Missouri in his place match and dropped the first period 1-0. Hobbs then battled back putting his opponent on his back in the 2nd period and nearly earning the fall. However, the match was to decided in the 3rd period with the winner earning 7th place. Hobbs and his Missouri opponent hand fought for 1:30 to a 0-0 score, which puts them in to par terre position (top/bottom) in Greco. Hobbs elected to go down and not only defended being turned, but put his opponent to his back in the process on his way to a 7th place finish.
Hobbs was one of three IL HWT's to place at Cadet Nationals and was also part of Team IL which took 2nd in the team point battle to Minnesota. Hobbs also becomes the first Cadet or Junior All-American since former DGS Mustang and current University of Michigan HWT Ben Apland was an All-American in Junior Freestyle in 2008.
