Mustangs Take Inaugural Alumni Cup!!!

On Wednesday, November 26th, the 2014-2015 Downers Grove South Mustangs defeated their cross-town rival Downers Grove North by a score of 44-26 to take the Inaugural Downers Grove Wrestling Alumni Cup.  A traveling trophy has been created which will be presented by the present Alumni to the current wrestlers of the victorious school.  There were over 50 Alumni present from both schools in what we hope will become an annual tradition in Downers Grove.

The #16 ranked Mustangs of Downers Grove wrestled hard and got out to a commanding 35-8 lead before the Trojans closed the gap towards the end.  Both the Mustangs and Trojans were missing key pieces of their line-ups as is common in week one of competition for any wrestling team's season.  The goal is to continuously improve throughout the season and to be physycally and mentally healthy when the state series starts in February.  

Wrestling in their final DGN meet were seniors Shawn Jager (152) and Ramy Abd (182).  Jager won be a major decision, while Abd dropped a close 3-2 match as he bumped up a weight class. SO Ryan Olsen earned a decision at 120, while Ahmir Hooks (JR-132), Jacob Chisholm (SO-132), Tyree Johnson (JR-145), Ramarro Lamar (JR-170), Ryan Gurski (JR-195), and Zach Muller (SO-HWT) all earned pins for the Mustangs.  

At the conclusion of the meet, many of the DGS Wrestling alumni presented the Alumni Cup to the current Mustangs.  Included in that group was the first State Champion from DGS, Bob Gassman, as well as State Runner-up, Bob Kampf.  It was a great evening for Mustangs young and old!
