The DGS Wrestling program completed a wrestling room make-over throughout the summer and the outcome was completely new wall mats replacing the wall mats that were originally installed when the school was built. The project was funded by both the DGS Wrestling Boosters and the DGS Athletic Department. The mats not only replaced the old mats, but new mats were also placed across doors and beams that used to be uncovered and dangerous for athletes. Athletic Director Randy Konstans was pleased with the results, "The project turned out great. We are very pleased and we really like how we were able to pad doors and some other areas that were not covered," Konstans said. Konstans felt that it was more of a safety issue than cosmetic as all areas are now covered and feels that kids will be safe when in the room. The space is not only used for Wrestling during the winter and spring season by the wrestling team, but also by the Downers Grove Cougars Youth Wrestling Club, as well as by the PE Department at DGS. When asked for comment about the project, Konstans stated, "It should be noted that this was a joint venture between the school and the Wrestling Boosters/Coach LeBlanc. The project cost about $9,000 which would have been too great for either group to complete alone. It is this type of cooperation that really moves our programs forward. The fund raising and all the work that goes into running the kids tournament goes right back to the program to benefit our kids. I am gratified to be associated with this program and these people."
